    Ground breaking Klingon info

    Post by Ezmac028 on 17/12/2009, 2:38 pm

Very interesting. What I took away from it:

-Not all Klingon ships can cloak. This seems to be limited to BoP style ships and their variants.
-Klingon captains are not constrained by class specific bridge stations. They can utilize any combination of BOFs they please (ie: all science BOFs, no science BOFs, etc).

    No where's my Orion/Gorn/Nausie info?!!

Interesting, the open bridge stations does allow them greater flexibility there. It does seem that Klingons aren't as fleshed out as the Federation, but I still want to give them a crack.

It would appear that the Klingon faction is a little less fleshed out. Still sounds interesting, I may give it a whirl.

Interesting but it seems that Klingon content is somewhat incomplete at launch. Too bad...

...is this news to you guys? 95% of what I've read on the STO forums in the last two weeks has been griefing from Klingon players about Federation favoritism. To most, this article was actually a pleasant surprise regarding Klingon content.

I now understand what has been going on.

Having Klingons represent "monster play" was the only way out for Cryptic.
    - it recognizes a "canon" aspect of Star Trek, but...
    - by controlling the factions, it protects the integrity of the IP
    - and it allows the minority (anything <= 49.9%) who enjoy PvP to have a place set aside
    - focuses time and money to where the majority of players are
    - provides a model for implementation of other, "niche" interests, like Romulan or Cardassian

The Trek IP always came with strings attached. This was the only solution.

    -edit-
I suppose the only way that this will be modified is based on player response (or rather, lack of) in game.

Oh, don't you worry Dru, I'm not a Klingon griefer, I'm a die hard FedRat. I very much like what Cryptic has done with the Klingon faction.

I think that in the end, playing as a Klingon will be very difficult and take an extremely skilled gamer to pull off. And as a casual FedRat gamer, I really REALLY like that. This will go miles into creating a great atmosphere for the game.

Just imagine, you're out there as a mid rank Lt. on an episodic mission and you wander into the Neutral Zone. All of a sudden a Klingon player ship, of any level, de-cloaks off your port bow and you feel real, legitimate, unbridled FEAR because you know the guy on the other end of that PC must be a real badass to have earned that 2nd tier Bird of Prey.

    I can't wait Smile

This just in: All Klingon ships, except the massive carrier ship, can cloak. However, only BoPs can cloak during combat.

Straight from the mouth of Devs, and I for one think that's a really good system they set up there.

"Players can choose between Klingon, Gorn, Orion, Lethean, Nausicaan, and of course the custom alien option." BONUS!!!

I'm really excited about this actually, I love the fact they've forcibly focused all Klingon attention on doing absolutely nothing except trying to kill us Fed types. Seriously, that's awesome as a Fed player. I have an enemy to truly fear!! They're going to be out there hunting us day in and day out!!

It seems they have the opportunity to min/max their loadouts - If they follow a wolfpack strategy with defined roles, it would be extremely dangerous.

Looks like it's going to be duels and arena play.

Most of it wasn't news to me either. Having read Jack's interview with MMORPG.com, I am reassured that Klingons will be worth playing and aren't quite as hard done by as some on the forums make out.
