Gamescom STO video

Today, Loekii posted this link to a video from the Gamescom press conference ...

Wow I'm impressed.

I'm having to watch it over and over to see all the goodies in it; Scimitar, Intrepid, Olympic, Suliban, Gorn & The Gardian of Forever - oh my!!

If it's half as good as it looks - Cryptic PR ought to be going gangbusters with this stuff. Why are they holding back? I can only speculate...

edit- i thought I saw a Constitution and a Prometheus/Cheyenne (?) at 2:40-2:49 and then earlier an old-style romulan warbird and a jem'hadar too. The head-butting gorn rocked!

They also said that it will be released next year. So at least we have some idea of a release date. I was kind of hoping for a before xmas release but my birthday is just after xmas

You see a lot more different classes in this vid hten in the official one, so it definitely looks like they're making good progress. Here's hoping it is as good to play as it is to look at

Yeah the combat footage looked awesome - at least from a visual perspective. I hope that it feels half that fun to command yourself!

Awesome footage! Though one thing bothered me, the movement of the ships in space wasn't always as smooth as you'd expect. But hey, they can still fix details like that later. Ground combat looked awesome too!

So I noticed there was what sounded like only one phaser sound effect, hopefully they will put some variety in it or I'm going to go def from what the video showed of constant phaser fire in battles.

I don't think I saw a Constellation class but I'm sure I saw the Prometheus class. I might have to make her my ship of choice if the Constellation is not available

Still can't make my mind up what the 4 nacelle ship is based on. From a front top profile it looks more like the Oslo, from a side profile it has more characteristics of a Prometheus. Maybe a new hybrid?

Thx, guys. I'm like you, BK, I'm not real sure that a Connie was in that trailer - since it's profile is almost exactly like the new Excalibur (and even might have been an Excelsior?).

Now the four-nacelled ship - I'm even more confused about it. The nacelles made me think Prometheus - but the primary hull was more blunted and there was no secondary hull to speak of. In this way, it reminded me of the Cheyenne. But it's not that either - because the spacing between the nacelles is too great with that ship. Maybe it is a Prometheus that got "customized"?

Definatly not a Constellation, not sure about a variation on the Oslo - however, we don't know anything about how varied the 'variations' can get. Prometheus variation would be my best guess - but that's just a guess.

A Constellation!

I just picked up the PC Gamer w/ the STO article and it's on page 47, top-most right.

It has a pimped secondary hull/nacelle configuration and a swept-forward, Voyager-esque, primary hull. Two other views of it are on p.50-51.

Seems they decided to lump the Cheyenne as a variation of the Constellation too. An 'exact' Cheyenne is directly to the left of our mystery ship in the same box.
Ok, so I was sorta in the neighborhood by thinking about the Cheyenne. Only half-credit there.

If I only had a scanner, I'd screem "wiki-fair-use" all day long.

-- hmm, these guys do their homework, Cheyenne is one of the more 'esoteric' of canon ships.

If I were to guess (maybe I can do better this time), I think that the Nova class would be grouped in with the 'explorer class' mission group.

I only say that b/c Cryptic seems to be grouping the ships by "Mission Super-Class" instead of individual class (ie. Nimitz Class carrier) or by tonnage - so no more DD, CL, CA, BB, DN designations.

For example, in the Escort mission class, we have the Oslo (SotL) and the Saber (PC Gamer). The Cruiser has the Excalibur (SotL) and we have the NX-9001 in the Explorer class.

And that would seem to match the understanding that we have about character classes; Escort/Tactical, Cruiser/Engineering, Explorer/Science.

It actually does make a kind of sense now that I think about it. I wasn't getting it a few months back, but now it seems to flow better.

The Equinox is a Nova class starship & first appeared in the Voyager episode called Equinox.
Is that the same Equinox your refering to?

The Equinox was a Nova, their hull is a bit more triangular seen from the top.

Wow! Some amazing info there dru. Thanks for posting this. Too bad we didn't see the entire screen but in the end I saw enough to keep me satisfied for a while. I also enjoy the doglike behaviour of your bridge officers when they follow you on the ground.
