Almost sounds like a new defiant class ship. It's one that's really built for war & not much else.

Yeah, i agree that this is a war oriented DPS type ship.
It'll be interesting to see if they have any explorer class ships for the Klingon side. I don't know if that'll be all that necessary, but it would be cool if the factions had a much different feel.

Any other WoW acronyms that I need to know?
They let out so many little hints about game play in that write-up!

There's also CC which means crowd control. I don't really know how you'd see this in STO, but it generally means you slow people down, make them unable to use abilities, or just severely weaken a target for a period of time.

though hopefully there will be none of this in STO I dont think it will fit well into the game.

I am very tempted by the Oslo class for the USS Heimdall. I'll wait and see what else is out there before I make a final decision though as it is missing a key ingredient for me if it's sensors are too average. I might be able to fix that in it's modular design though.

by the looks of it they are makeing Starfleet mission specific ships instead of mutli-role.
Its say two torpedo launchers one forward one aft?

Being a 'tank' of sorts i would expect them both to be front mounted. Plus it's based on the Akira class ship & they have both torpedo launchers front mounted so my guess is the Oslo is the same.

Also Agro:
Agro = the group member that 'has agro' is the target of the NPC's attacks (Non Player Characters, ie enemy ships or whatever).
The tank will try to keep agro because they can take the most beating. It's impossible to know what the mechanic will be in STO for NPCs to determine their targets at this point, but this is one advantage of being in a fleet! We get to figure out the mechanic together. Once we find out the system we can better protect our healers and DPSers who are usually 'squishy' (die easy).
As i said before, I hope STO doesn't conform to a strict DPS, Healer, Tank etc mode, but that is the general WoW format.

I don't know that it can..... I mean can you imagine "Mr. Spock please transport Mr. Sulu to the medical ship." in the middle of a battle?" it just wouldn't make any sense......

I'm thinking that ships will be able to do a bit of everything, so if you want to take your medical ship into battle you can or if you want to run some sensor sweeps in your heavy escort you can. It just won't be as effective.

Yeah, I'm really hoping for this too. Pretty much every ship has to be effective in solo missions (in order to feel like star trek). It gets boring to have to use the same tactics all the time, so hopefully they give us tons of options.
Obviously there should be specializations, but I hope that many combination of classes make effective groups. Even 5 ships from the same class should be effective. Maybe not as effective as a more diverse group, but the group shouldn't be crippled. This system would help out more casual players like us who will team up with whoever happens to be on.

I'm thinking that even if you have five ships of the same class present in the battle group, each capatin could customize (tweak) their ships with mission specific modules to some limited extent - that's my hope anyway. This would give the players the most flexability right out of the gate.

ya know its funny, we call ourselves casual players, and yet most of us log on here almost every day, Id hardly call that casual. lol

lol that's true. Although quite a few post from work too, and I'm doubting they'd be able to play from there unless they have a really cool boss... that's why I'm my own boss
