    Ask Cryptic #11

Post by Coco on 24/6/2009, 9:21 am

For those who haven't seen it yet, there's a new Ask Cryptic up.
You can check it out here.

Biggest morsels for me are no Fed cloaking, no civilian faction (big impact on some economic views) and no PvP-flagging but automatic depending on which sector you're in. Also interesting to see Klingon houses will be able to have conflicts.

It was only fair that the federation woulden't have full cloaking capability. And the fact that you are automaticly flagged for PVP in zones like the Neutral Zone is only logical. I mean, else you could just stroll around the galaxy not having to worry about a single thing.

I joined into the "discussion" about Neutral Zone consensual PvP and I'm selfishly gloating that I was correct in my interpretation - if you're in the NZ you have consented to gettin' an ass-whuppin'. In your face Lokii! Angryrazz

I really like how they approached ship progression. "We’re trying to do that so people can hold onto their favorite ships."

I do too. I remember it being a big talking point that some people want to keep the smaller ones and not be forced to take on a Sovereign or Galaxy to avoid feeling gimped.

I think you would still be at a disadvantage, but not a huge one. I like it in that it isnt a straight line of progression and you can't tell who has played through what just by their ships; If you wanted to keep a smaller ship you could and not get left behind, things might just be a little tougher... but I love a challenge!!

Anyone know if you will be able to only have one ship? I understand that you could only use one at a time but could I keep a second ship for use in fleet maneuvers or would it always be the same one for everything?

This seems to be a good thing in that it removes a forced ship progression and 'end game' syndrome of everyone topping out with a Sovereign and having nowhere else to go.

AF I thought I heard something about being able to have multiple ships in your 'garage' so to speak, but I can't remember if that was a quote or wishful thinking.

    Anybody else remember that?

As far as I can remember Zinc mentioned something about being able to keep previous tier ships in a 'garage', but he didn't specify how many.

I found an answer for you: Ten Ton Hammer
Ten Ton Hammer: Can a ship last an entire career or will players be upgrading ships often?

Al: Players will be upgrading their ships every time they improve in rank. For example, from Lieutenant to Lieutenant Commander you will unlock options to new ships so you will be changing ships. That is quite a while that you'll spend in that ship. Towards the end of your career the difference between the new ships gets smaller. You could stay in some ships like the Galaxy class but in general you'll want to upgrade. You can keep up to eight ships in your inventory, oh inventory is a bad word, you can own up to eight ships at a time. When you upgrade you don't have to lose your other ships. Also at top tiers such as Admiral, there are six ships that are comparable. You will very easily be able to swap between those six depending on what the mission is. There is an Assault Cruiser, Star Cruiser, Deep Space Science Vessel, Reconnaissance Science Vessel, Fleet Escort, and a sixth ship (escort who's name escapes me) that you can choose for end-game. So there is quite a bit of "alting" available as you swap out ships and load outs. That is a large part of what the end-game is going to be, alting between these different ships.

LOL - I stripped that poor Centaur down to the bulkhead for salvage after I got my Excalibur - moved the sheilds, saved a few Bridge Modules, used the extra cash for new goodies - another BO, armor, weapons, uniform/race changes!

Lol I did the same with my Miranda. I wasn't planning on flying it again so might as well strip and sell off Wink

That will be... of course... the best option when you qualify for a new ship. Being able to strip it, sell it, and afford new parts.
